INVITED REVIEW: MAHEC in Le Meridien Dubai

It was a hot Friday afternoon, we hit the road from Abu Dhabi to Le Meridien Dubai for MAHEC for a lunch. Modern Authentic Hindustani Evolved Cusine this is the meaning of MAHEC which is running for 4-5 years now. It’s in Umm Al Hurair near the airport.

The restaurant has 3 dining divisions. It has the dining area outside, the normal one inside and the one near the bar. When we were there some Punjabi songs were played and enjoyed listening to it while eating. It’s the best place for gatherings, parties or some event. It can accommodate large group of people.

20160722_132140-01.jpegWe were taken to our seats and I got a surprise with the plated gold plates on the table. Well I thought this is really what’s normally used there for eating but no! They do serve different plates and tiding up the table on each course.

I felt so special here, why? We didn’t have to order anything. I don’t have to think deeply what’s the best food to try and share to all of you since it’s Ala Carte Menu. The Head Chef, Asif and Mr. Santosh, the Manager were so kind enough to leave this job on them. They came to our table and humbly introduced themselves and we did likewise. Chef Asif did a bit food checking with us which I found indeed necessary: Veggie or non-veggie, allergies, etc. This way, it helped him a lot too on what’s the best dish he can come up with for us.

20160722_134609-01.jpegWithout any delay, the food came from starters to dessert with beautiful presentations. For starters, Aloo Pappi ( it’s a potato, with sweet yoghurt and mint sauce and a tamarind sauce spread on the plate). This was served with a lemonade juice made in a very different way. It’s a mixed of lemon juice and a bit of ginger with salt and basil seeds. Very refreshing!

20160722_135129-01.jpegThen comes the appetizer. The crispy, spicy papadam with some dip sauce such as mint sauce, sweet mango chutney, pickled mango and pickled chili. This finger food is definitely bringing up the appetite on us.

20160722_135700-01.jpegThen an added platter was brought to our table. It’s a mixed of veggie and non-veggie. It was my first time to have a platter of this kind. It has a stunning presentation and taste! There was asparagus rolled on a cottage cheese and stuffed with potato. Spicy and yummy! Then the broccoli cooked with parmesan cheese. That made it so cheesy and creamy. The traditional chicken tikka and lamb seekh kebab. I enjoyed each bite with all of it.

I was thinking that’s the main course but wait! There’s more food coming on the way. We got a basket of bread in different types. The laccha, plain naan and naan with chopped coriander and garlic. And some festival of famous dishes such as Butter Chicken, Karahi Paneer, & Dal Makhnee, and the Lamb Biryani with raita. All of these were served on our table and was very enticing and so I didn’t wait so long to dig it in.  I almost finished the bread with all these and my tummy was saying already stop. I’ve been seeing it online this kind of biryani being cooked in a pot and then covered with dough on top. And I’ve seen it real here in MAHEC for the first time. Meat was tender and flavoursome. The MAHEC Paradise mocktail was there to push everything inside for awhile. This is a mixture of orange juice, mango juice, coconut milk and top up with cranberry juice. A hot towel with a very pleasant scent was given afterwards for wiping the hands.

20160722_134505-01.jpegI was about to go after unwinding a bit, but the dessert is being prepared already. The Bombay pudding came which is having a gulab jamun in the middle, some fudge and bits of walnuts. The other one was Kulfi with Rasmalai and chocolate sauce spread on the plate. I can say, it was totally a food trip was done in MAHEC that day. I sincerely thank Chef Asif for his job well done. A talented and professional Head Chef.
