Think I was too excited. When we reached Claypot it was still close 🙂 We had our dinner last Friday in Claypot (The Desi Flavours) in City Max Hotel – Bur Dubai. It’s in the lobby level just beside the concierge desk.
Claypot went for renovation and it re-opened last July. Every Friday they have brunch (buffet) however for dinner it’s Ala Carte Menu which made me happy😅. It has a great ambiance with dim lights giving way to show off the white curtains dividing each tables from one another. This is very comfortable to sit like sofa with several colorful cushions on it. In the center part is where the buffet table is. Then there’s the other two more kinds of tables. One is the long table for big groups and the other is normal one. They have desi style chandeliers and some very unique trolleys that strolls inside the restaurant.
First is the Chaat Trolley which is having all the spices, sauces and kinds of puri and Chef Das can only make it for you so delicious!
Second, the Whisky trolley has several kinds of alcohol that guests can choose from. They have Live Entertainment as well wherein a live band performs every night from 9pm. They call themselves the Passion Band and they perform Bollywood songs. The great thing is, you can request your favourite song on a piece of paper.
Now let’s go to the food! We started with the Spicy Papadam with some dips like curd ( super good because it tasted like cheese) mint sauce and chilli sauce.
Chef Das came with some starters from his Chaat Trolley. We have the beautiful Dahi Puri at first, sweet and spicy! In it is potato, chickpeas, green sauce, curd, tamarind sauce and topped with sev and chopped coriander leaves. Next was the Sev Puri which is a mix of pomegranate, potato, chopped onions, sweet mango chutney and tamarind sauce. Absolutely gave a kick!
Then in awhile the kebab platters came. There’s the Non-Veg Platter consisting of Prawns, Chicken, Mutton and Fish cooked in charcoal. This was served sizzling smoking hot straight to our table. It’s pretty good taste especially the fish you’ll not taste it like a fish. I believe because of the ajwain they used for marination.
The Vegetable Platter was Subzi Kurkure, Dahi Ke Kebab and Paneer tikka. All yummy and delicious as well.
In between, we came know Chef Ehsan, the Chef de Partie. While the Exec. Chef, Chef Feroz was busy he handled the main course for us for the moment. He prepared Daal Tadka, Gosht Vindalo and Butter Chicken partnered with different rotis and parathas. And this is superb! This is where we and especially my husband has confirmed that they do deserve the title “The Desi Flavours“. Desi style with Desi taste it’s brilliant! Too much flavour in it and all you can do is praise the food 😅. While we got enticed and relishing these dishes, finally we met Chef Feroz. Kind of shy type person but we know a talented Chef indeed.
Dinner will not finish without a dessert of course. A sample platter was served which has Gulab Jamun, Ras Malai, Gagarhalwa and Moong Dal Halwa. This delicious dessert was done by Chef Das too. It was my first time to eat Gagarhalwa and I loved it so much. It’s made out of carrots.
For sure everyone were enjoying their food that night just like us. Hearing them cheerfully eating and bonding with their families and friends.
I can remember Akshay was so patient with me explaining each dishes to me and I’m grateful with that and same goes with Karan. It was wonderful night to meet Mr. Rawat, Manager and Mr. Soji too. Humble people and attentive with their guests.
