INVITED REVIEW: When in doubt, go to Cho Gao

Cho Gao is an Asian restaurant (east asian to be specific) located in the ground level of Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi. It’s a Vietnamese word that means “rice market“. It was dinner time when we visited during the weekend and so it was crowded! Cho Gao is ready to showcase to you their flavorful dishes from Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, China and Japan. The interior design (made of dark wood) of this restaurant resembles the HongKong market to its authentic taste with infused fresh herbs and spices. Thus it’s like transporting you to HongKong once you seated and started savoring the goodness.

I love Asian food and since I’m a foodie I love each and every cuisine 🙂 I’m so excited to try their sumptuous dishes as how they look so mouth-watering on Instagram. Ok I was recommended to try the Wasabi Prawns first. It’s a crispy fried Gulf prawns mixed with wasabi dressing crowned with mango salsa. You can taste the wasabi but not that spicy as you would expect. Blended well and done to perfection.

And then Maki as follows: Volcano Rolls (shrimp tempura, crab stick, avocado, cucumber and spicy mayo inside), this is a bit spicy because of the mayo however two thumbs up!, Crispy Crust Maki (shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber, carrot, crab crust and lolo rosso inside) first time to have a crispy Maki and it’s really crispy on each maki and Caramel Maki (shrimp tempura, crab stick avocado, crispy caramel crab topping), if you’ll notice almost similar to each other but once this crispy caramel crab topping was placed it really gives a different flavour. It’s kind of sweet but good for a difference. I informed her (sadly I was not able to catch her name) that I don’t eat raw fish meat so these were her recommendations which I enjoyed a lot!

I got the Cho Gao Pillow (seafood), it’s a mix of calamari, shrimps, mussels and dory in hot basil sauce. This is one of my favorites now! Extremely flavoursome! Fully covered with aluminum foil on a sizzling plate underneath it. Once you popped the pillow as they call it, the fragrance of this dish will be bursting out.

The Cashew Chicken, is a stir fried chicken with cashew nuts, shiitake mushrooms, white onions, capsicums and slow roasted chili paste and served with steamed rice topped with golden fried onions and the Crispy Skin Peking Duck, is served with hoisin sauce and steamed pan cakes which will serve as wrappers. Thin slices of cucumber and spring onions were served with the Peking duck. I love this part as I was making my own Peking duck wrap. You can have this either for full/half/quarter served altogether on the table. Your sense of smell will be so sensitive enough to relish the brimming flavour of the dishes floating on the air.

Although children are accepted here, it’s better to come over during daytime before the happy hour begins. I’m saying this for those who would like to visit as a family. Also a free wifi for all and only amazing food!
