INVITED EVENT: Cooking workshop with Chef Leba

Getting a cooking experience from a head chef is something that comes as a rare opportunity for me. So I said ‘yes’ when I was invited to an exclusive event from Yansoon restaurant located in Ras Al Khaimah, particularly cooking was about Manakeesh. Together with this was a Pre-iftar review prepared for us as well. Yup! Fellow bloggers were there too to witness this awesome event.



Guess I was so excited about this, that I arrived first on that day! Hahaha! Yansoon is in the corniche area and it’s a very expansive place. With pretty amazing and stunning arabic interior decor as well. It has outdoor seating and an open lounge upstairs which is ideal for some group gatherings and people who love sisha. It overlooks the RAK creek and on this area you can do some kayaking, rowing, boating, etc.


Head Chef, Chef Leba has introduced himself to us (from Lebanon) and he’s a very humble person. As one of us has made a small interview to him (Minna), I came to know from Chef Leba that you’ll be able to distinguish that a Lebanese restaurant serves good food if the Tabouleh and Hummus alone are done well. Pretty interesting right? Well that’s the chef’s technique and it will be helpful for me too.

Putting on our apron, we started making our own manakeesh in the kitchen. Chef explained and showed what to do first and then we followed. Result was great and we were all happy with the outcome. Creativity with the combinations of the toppings has done a great job!


After we have tried our own made manakeesh, our table has started to be filled up with iftar dishes. Yansoon has a Set Menu previously for iftar but this time, they have a delish buffet for all. You’ll be expecting:

Cold Mezza: Hummus, Hummus Beiruty, Moutabal, Yansoon Moutabal, Vine Leaves, Moussaka (chilled eggplant and tomato dish)



Salad: Fattoush, Tabbouleh


Hot Mezza: Lahem Bil Banadoura (beef with tomato), Potato Harra (spiced potato), Rakakat (cheese rolls), Fatayer (spinach pastry), Mixed Sambousek (beef and cheese)


Main Course: Fish Sayadieh


Dessert: Rice Pudding, Kunafa


Drink: Jallab (Ramadan drink made from grape molasses)

All are superb and outstanding! Just I want to highlight  a few which made a remarkable taste for me i.e. Lahem Bil Banadoura, Potato Harra and Fish Sayadieh.

We were so stuffed and headed for some coffee and tea. Moroccan tea was so fragrant and same goes with the taste and I had my capuccino afterwards.


We ended up with a manakeesh dessert as well which was purely done by Antony, an Australian photographer. He made his own version of the Nutella Banana manakeesh that came out so well too.


It was great to be part of this event and I was happy to meet Zeyna (Mummy on my Mind) finally. Our kids were playing together and doing some naughty stuffs around the restaurant. It was a great hospitality shown to us and I definitely recommend this place for iftar this Ramadan.
